On 25 January 2021, the Panhellenic Association of Translators entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of Greek Sign Language Interpreters (AGSLI), with the aim of further promoting the interests of the translating and interpreting profession around Greece.
The Association of Greek Sign Language Interpreters (AGSLI) was founded in 1991 and is a member of the European Federation of Sign Language Interpreters (EFSLI).
Amongst its objectives, AGSLI aims to be a support network for the Greek professional sign language interpreters, to develop and promote standards for high quality training, education and assessment of sign language interpreters, to support the work of sign language interpreters working at national and international events, to work in partnership with Deaf and Deafblind associations on sign language interpreting issues and to liaise with spoken language interpreter organisations and other organisations having common interests.
The two associations have agreed to:
- Share information on upcoming international conferences for translators and interpreters and support each other’s annual or bi-annual conferences and other events through participation, sharing of resources, or presenting papers if applicable.
- Exchange information with regard to international, regional and national training courses for translators and interpreters and cooperate where appropriate in other areas of professional training and development.
- Each Party will accept members of the other Party as members on application and payment of relevant fees, based on the receiving organisation’s membership rules.
- Each Party will contribute material to the publications of the other Party from time to time and provide access to its own publications to the other Party for contributions of material. The Parties will exchange their respective newsletters in electronic form or hard copy, and advertising space will be made available in such publications where relevant.
The Memorandum commenced on 25 January 2021 and shall be automatically renewed on 1 January of each subsequent year.
