Role of the Disciplinary Board
The Disciplinary Board of PEM:
- Investigates any charges against PEM members on unethical conduct.
- Recommends sanctions in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Conduct and regulations of PEΜ.
- Imposes the temporary or permanent suspension of members in particularly serious cases set out in the Code of Ethics and Conduct.
- Prepares and updates the Code of Ethics and Conduct and the procedure for filing a complaint.
- Convenes and discusses issues with 2 members present, but decisions must be taken by all members.

Establishment and members
The provisions regarding the establishment of the Disciplinary Board are outlined in Article 28A of PEM’s Articles of Association. The Disciplinary Board consists of 3 members.
The General Meeting appoints the Disciplinary Board members for 2 years. All of them are paid-up full PEM members.
Meet the Disciplinary Board Members for the 2020-2022 mandate
Maya Fourioti, President
Maya studied in France and graduated from the University of Lyon II, with a degree in Applied Foreign Languages and Translation, specialising in Semiology (Maîtrise, and a degree in History of Art, specialising in Museology (Maîtrise). Her third degree is in Tourism. The very first course in Translation she followed before studying at university was at the Institut Français d’ Athênes. She is fluent in English, French and Italian.
From 1982 to 2003 she worked as a corporate translator / interpreter, along with her teaching job. In 2003, she set up her own translation business and has been working exclusively as a translator since.
Maya is a regular member of PEM and served as Secretary General of the Board for the 2018-2020 term. She is also a member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI).
Mariza Syrelli, Vice President
Marisa holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) diploma in Marketing, a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Tourism Management from Sheffield Hallam University and the Chartered Institute of Linguists diploma in Translation (IoL DipTrans).
She translates and reviews documents and books from English to Greek (native) and vice-versa, and has been acting as a project manager since 2005. In addition, she speaks French and Italian. She specialises in commercial, financial, technical and marketing content and works with companies in Greece and internationally. She is an experienced user of CAT tools, such as MemoQ and SDL Trados Studio, as well as of quality assurance tools.
Marisa has been a member of PEM since 2013 and served as Member of the Board for the 2018-2020 term.
Danae Seemann, Member
Danae has a background in journalism and holds a BA in Journalism from California State University-Humboldt and an Advanced Diploma in TESOL from the UK’s Open University.
She worked as an EFL teacher in Greece for 25+ years before getting her Diploma in Translation (DipTrans IoLET) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She has been working as a freelance Greek > English translator since 2008. Her areas of expertise include general legal and medical texts, insurance, CSR reporting, food and wine, tourism and marketing. She mainly works with LSPs in Greece and abroad, as well as with direct clients. She has also provided volunteer translation services for Translators without Borders and animal rescue groups.
Danae has been a member of PEM since 2017.
