Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee of the Panhellenic Association of Translators (PEM) consists of individuals who are highly esteemed in their field. Members of the Scientific Committee are friends, allies and advocates of the linguistic professions. Their participation in PEM is advisory and supportive.

Role of the Scientific Committee

All PEM members have the right to contact the Scientific Committee on issues, such as:

  • Lawful practice of the linguistic professions acknowledged by PEM, for example, when a translation is considered official, when a translation is considered valid abroad, what the translator’s liabilities are for certain translation choices or practices, what the translator’s rights are against a customer or employer etc.
  • Quality of communication with customers or colleagues, who may or may not be PEM members.
  • Any dispute arising between a translator and their customer regarding the accuracy of a translation, provided that the translation content falls within the field of knowledge the specific member of the Scientific Committee.

To reach the members of the Scientific Committee, contact the PEM Secretariat.

The provisions regarding the establishment of the Scientific Committee are outlined in Article 28B of PEM’s Articles of Association.

The advisory members comprising the Scientific Committee are natural persons of recognised status from any field, as provided in Article 5 of the Articles of Association. Their field may or may not be related to linguistic professions.

They are named by decision of the General Meeting on the recommendation of the PEM Board. They do not have the right to vote or to be elected to office, and they are not listed on PEM’s register.
