Duties of the Board members
The Board of Directors meets ordinarily every 45 days, but also extraordinarily. The Board Members ought to participate in meetings either in person or online.
Where a Board member is absent for 3 consecutive meetings, the member shall be declared to have resigned by decision of the Board of Directors.
Meet the Board Members for the 2018-2020 mandate
Fotis Fotopoulos, President
Fotis is a translator and career advisor. With a degree in Computer Science and a Master’s in safety-critical systems, he initially worked in England as a software programmer, engineering consultant and project manager.
He first started translating in 2005, and in 2010 he obtained the Diploma in Translation. In the last few years he has almost exclusively offered specialised translation, intercultural communication and career counselling services in healthcare. Fotis is also a certified ISO 9001:2015 lead auditor.
Fotis has been President of the Board since March 2016, having earlier served on PEM’s Audit Committee from 2012-16.
Evdoxia Renta, Vice President
Evdoxia holds an MA in Applied Translation Studies from London Metropolitan University. She has been active for over 20 years in the language industry and her working languages are English and Greek.
She has translated 22 books and numerous comic books. She has been training students in translation tools since 2006, while proofreading and review have been her main professional focus for the last 9 years. She has extensive experience in 12 CAT tools and is a certified SDL Studio user (all levels).
Evdoxia joined PEM in 2012. She was elected member of the Board for the 2016-2018 term.
Maya Fourioti, Secretary General
Maya studied in France and graduated from the University of Lyon II, with a degree in Applied Foreign Languages and Translation, specialising in Semiology (Maîtrise, and a degree in History of Art, specialising in Museology (Maîtrise). Her third degree is in Tourism. The very first course in Translation she followed before studying at university was at the Institut Français d’ Athènes. She is fluent in English, French and Italian.
From 1982 to 2003 she worked as a corporate translator/interpreter, along with her teaching job. In 2003, she set up her own translation business and has been working exclusively as a translator since.
Maya is a member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) and the current Secretary General of PEM.
Katerina Kravva, Treasurer
Katerina has a Masters by research (DEA) in Lexicography from University Paul-Valéry Montpellier III and a Masters (Maîtrise) in Applied Foreign Languages from the same institution.
Since 2000 she has been a founding member and partner in various large translation firms. In 2008 she struck out on her own, setting up her own business, which went on to join the European Language Industry Association (ELIA). She specialises in technical translations and has extensive experience in using CAT tools. She speaks fluent English and French.
Katerina has been a member of PEM since 2000.
Vassiliki Dadavassili, Member
Vassiliki is a graduate of the Department of French Language and Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Postgraduate Degree in Professional Translation from the University of Strasbourg.
From 1994 to 2011 she worked as a translator and interpreter at the office she set up in Kalamata. She also worked for 15 years as a foreign language teacher (English and French), adult educator and training coordinator in Greek municipalities and in the context of European projects. Wishing to instil the same passion into her work and with the desire to capitalise on her rich experience, in 2016, she created her new agency, offering bespoke translation and interpreting services.
Vassiliki has been a member of the PEM since 1995 and served as Vice President of the Board for 2000-2002.
Marisa Syrelli, Member
Marisa holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) diploma in Marketing, a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Tourism Management from Sheffield Hallam University and the Chartered Institute of Linguists diploma in Translation (IoL DipTrans).
She translates and reviews documents and books from English to Greek (native) and vice-versa, and has been acting as a project manager since 2005. In addition, she speaks French and Italian. She specialises in commercial, financial, technical and marketing content and works with companies in Greece and internationally. She is an experienced user of CAT tools, such as memoQ and SDL Trados Studio, as well as of quality assurance tools.
Marisa has been a member of PEM since 2013 and has been actively contributing to the Association’s communication efforts as member of the Board since 2018.
Anastasia Giagopoulou, Member
Anastasia holds a degree in English Language and Literature from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She also holds an MA degree in Translation and Intercultural Studies from UMIST, UK and a certificate in the Strategy of Content Marketing from the University of California, Davis Extension.
She has been working as a freelance translator since 2004. Her areas of expertise include technical, commercial and marketing, and her working languages are English and Greek (native). She works with translation agencies and direct clients in Greece and internationally. She is a proficient user of many CAT tools, such as SDL Trados Studio, Memsource, memoQ and more.
Anastasia has been a full member of PEM since 2007 and was elected member of the Board at the 2018 General Meeting for a two-year term.
